Care homes

There are two types of care homes:

Residential homes provide accommodation with 24 hour support for personal care, such as dressing, eating meals or taking a bath. The council runs three residential care homes and also commissions a number of others which are independently or privately run.

Nursing care homes provide the same services as residential homes, but also employ a registered nurse who's available at all times and supervised by a doctor or consultant. There are three nursing care homes in the borough.

Finding a care home

Search for care homes in Waltham Forest.

You can also use the NHS Choices website to search for care homes or nursing care homes in Waltham Forest and elsewhere in the country.

Choosing a care home

Once you’ve found a care home you like, you can simply make your own arrangements. This includes when you want to attend a viewing and what facilities you’ll pay for.

Both types of home are registered and inspected regularly by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and all inspection reports are published on the CQC website. You can also contact them on 03000 61 61 61.

You may want to take independent advice too. If so, you can visit the Age UK website for independent information about care homes.

Our staff are also here to advise you and can be contacted on 020 8489 3000.

Paying for care

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to pay for some or all of your care.
