Gymtherapy is an educational service which promotes emotional wellbeing and preventative safeguarding programmes to schools and organisations.
The holistic, child-centred sessions provide at-risk children with opportunities to develop key skills in the following areas:
• Identity and Self Esteem
• Anger Expression
• Protective Behaviours
• Gender Stereotypes
In adopting a preventative approach, Gymtherapy aims to increase resilience and reduce risk of children experiencing (or not knowing how to act upon) abuse or mistreatment.
Sessions are taught through the medium of creative movement, choreography and art work in a way which engages with children who might struggle to engage with traditional classroom methods. The aim is to empower children to take responsibility for their own physical and emotional wellbeing in a nurturing and supportive environment.
Sessions are taught by qualified social workers who understand legislation, policy and nation-wide procedures pertaining to effectively safeguarding children, promote their rights and encourage disclosures to take place in a safe environmment.
