Description

Redwood Preschool is a voluntary sector preschool which provides education and care within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2017). Our provision is focused on six commitments which underpin everything that we do. One of these is a commitment to inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.  We recognise that all children have needs.

Redwood prioritises children with professionally identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities within the waiting list and provides a welcoming, safe and inclusive learning environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential.  This commitment is widely recognised by the various professionals who work with us and refer children to us.  Over one third of the children on our current roll have an identified Special Educational Need and/or Disabilities and we use individual Education Support Plans to ensure that their needs are met.

Our staff have experience of working with children with a wide variety of needs and are always eager to develop new skills and gain more knowledge.  It is rare for a child to have full time one-to-one support, but we do try to provide this at the times when it is particularly needed during the child’s sessions.  We also withdraw children for short periods, individually or in groups, during which time we follow programmes developed in conjunction with other professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and the Educational Psychologist.  We use a graduated response to ensure that early identification and intervention leads to effective support, which may eventually include requesting an Education, Health and Care needs assessment for a child.
