Together for Peace (African Heritage and Educational Centre)

Together for Peace is part of Waltham Forest's Gangs Prevention Programme and runs activities such as:

  • At least 6 hours per week workshop at the Forest Community Centre using paid facilitators on non-violent means of communication and conflict resolution
  • Workshops will take place during term time Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday evenings.
  • Organise at least 2 hours per week one-to-one personal coaching at the Forest Community Centre to identify and assist individuals with developing and reaching personal goals.
  • Provide 3 hours of training activities on Saturdays afternoons at the Forest Community Centre that will focus on (a) Fights, knives, guns and drugs and (b) Teenage pregnancy – what are the reasons behind teenage pregnancy.
  • Conduct a training needs analysis to identify skills of young people and provide them with training in youth leadership skills.
  • Employ a Community Gang Engagement Worker to assist in problem solving with at-risk youth. Serving as a liaison between schools and other agencies in the community regarding gang related matters.
  • Inform teachers, parents, carers and other agencies in LBWF of the availability of workshops.
  • Reduce the frequency of gang violence in LBWF
  • Advertise in the local press and email to schools, local organisations, organisations on AHEC database  and website.


  1. Providing prevention and intervention services to children and young people who are at risk of gang involvement and/or who are involved with gang activity.
  2. Coordinate with community agencies to address the needs of gang-involved youth and their families.
  3. Raising awareness of the problem of gang Violence and establishing social norms that make Gang violence unacceptable.
  4. Building Networks within the Community that will: equip community leaders and families with the information and skills they need to engage their community in Gang Prevention Activities
  5. Provide a two ways system of communication, through Newsletters, website and sign posting.
