Magic Life Supported Living
Magic Life was founded in 2013 and was started by a group of professionals with a genuine commitment, interest and concern for vulnerable adults with Mental Health diagnosis and Learning Disabilities. We have had great success improving their opportunities in life, through education, employment and assisting them to live independently in their own homes.
Due to our continued success we are expanding further into the field of Learning Disability including Autism and our vision is to be the leading provider in this field. Our aim is to improve the health and well being of those we support, we accomplish this through Enhancing, Encouraging, Empowering, Engaging and Enriching the lives of the people we support.
Magic Life believe that each and every person who requires supported living should be provided with accommodation within the community that is of a high quality and has a ‘home’ that meets their needs.
We know that no two people are the same and each has individual needs, this is tailored from the initial assessment and carried through. This is done with the completion of Support and Goal plans with the clients input and risk assessments are put in place to ensure safety.
At Magic Life we encourage and empower our clients, we employ those who are looking to return to work, offering them a contract etc.
We recognise the importance of involving the individual, their families and friends as well as external agencies every step of the way.
At Magic Life activities are at the forefront, each Project holds weekly as well as external events where clients can pick and choose; this could be something simple like a ‘Bake Off’ competition or day trips out and even short breaks away.
Activities can improve symptoms by providing chances for social interaction, improving communication skills, language and providing sensory stimulation.
Activities for people with Learning Disability including autism generally fall within the categories of educational, social interaction and recreational. Some activities serve multiple purposes. For example, some group games can increase communication ability and help improve social interaction skills.
Some examples of activities are:
- Art classes, Singing, Music Class, Martial Arts, Drama, Storytelling, Card, Board and Computer games, Swimming, Basketball and Gymnastics.
Each individual project has a Project Manager, Senior Support Workers and Support Workers. Each service user has an allocated key worker.
Each project has monthly service user meetings, these meetings consist of the service users and staff, minutes of these meetings are documented, and a copy given to each service user.
Service users have at least monthly key working sessions, where they spend time with their allocated key worker and discuss any concerns/wishes etc., the key working sessions are documented.
How can you be placed with us?
Initially we receive a referral from a placing authority, we always manage to carry out an assessment within 48 hours of receiving the referral, once the assessment is completed we send a proposal to the placing authority, however, whilst all this is going on we would encourage you and your family to view our projects, meet the staff and other service users and if you wish, spend time with them.
Prior to admission you will be allocated a key worker, on admission your key worker will be on duty where you will both spend time completing your Support Plan and Goal Plan. Staff will assist you with your application for benefits including housing benefit, this will take about an hour but once it is done then you will not have to revisit it.
On admission you will also be given a Service User guide, this will give you information of the project and surrounding area.
At Magic Life our staff are at the forefront, they are dedicated and passionate about the support they give.
Staff have a robust induction period
Staff are trained to a high standard with ongoing training provided.
Staff have obtained or are working towards the Care Certificate
Staff have 3 monthly Supervisions and yearly Appraisals (as per our policy).
All staff go through a vigorous interview process and each have an enhanced DBS.
We also encourage and have used our service users to be part of the interview panel.
We carry out Quality Assurance yearly, this shows us where we can improve or where we can congratulate good practice.
Quality Assurance forms are completed by our Service users (staff will assist where needed), Families and Staff, the responses are audited, and actions taken where necessary and the outcomes are fed-back to the relevant persons.
We carry out monthly Medication, Support and Goal Plan, Risk Assessments and Health & Safety audits.
At Magic Life we have an external auditor who visits every 6 weeks for 2 days.
