Church Hill Nursery School is a community school, funded by the London Borough of Waltham Forest. We offer child-centred, teacher-led joyful pre-school education and childcare to children aged 2, 3 and 4, with highly-qualified staff - 3 qualified teachers, and Early Years Practitioners, many of whom who have at least NVQ Level 3.

To find out more about us, please come to our Visiting Day. These are held on most Wednesdays in term-time, between 9.15am–11am and 1.15pm–3pm. These sessions can get full quickly so we recommend that you arrive early. Coming to Visiting Day will help you and your child become familiar with the nursery staff, building, garden and routine.

2 year olds The government pays for eligible families to have up to 15 hours of free early education every week in school term time. We provide these as either:

  • 5 x 3-hour morning sessions, 9am to 12 noon or
  • 5 x 3-hour afternoon sessions, 12.45pm to 3.45pm.

We may be able to offer such places on a paid-for basis from time to time.

If you are eligible the website will give you an eligibility code and a letter, which you bring in to Church Hill.

Free 15 hours for 3 and 4 year olds The government pays for all children to have 15 hours of free early education every week in school term time. We provide these as either:

  • 5 x 3-hour morning sessions, 9am to 12 noon or
  • 5 x 3-hour afternoon sessions, 12.45pm to 3.45pm.

Free 30 hours for some 3 and 4 year olds Some working families earning around £120 a week or more can get an extra 15 hours of free early education and childcare - a total of 30 hours per week in school term time. We provide these as:

  • 2 x 3-hour sessions, either morning or afternoon plus
  • 3 x 8-hour sessions, from 8am to 4pm.

The Government decides if a family is entitled to this 30 hrs FEEE. To find out if you are eligible, go to the childcare section of the government website at To apply you will need to register and set up a Childcare Account, which you can do by following the links. If you are eligible the website will give you an eligibility code, which you tell Church Hill.

Daycare for 3 and 4 year olds You can pay for additional hours for your 3 or 4 year old at a rate of £6.50 per hour in the pattern that suits you best. We offer a minimum of 2 days per week in these patterns:

  1. term-time (38 weeks a year), either 8am to 4pm or 8am to 6pm or
  2. year-round (48 weeks a year), 8am to 6pm.

Holiday playscheme
Our popular holiday play scheme is also open to children age 3 to 9 from the local area. You can download the booking form from our website

Teatime club and after school pick up
Our Tea Time Club operates daily from 3.30pm until 6pm during term time for nursery children. Staff also pick up children aged 4 to 8 years from Henry Maynard Primary School. A snack tea and activities are provided.

Church Hill is part of the Forest Alliance of Nursery Schools, a federation with Low Hall Nursery School. We work together, retaining our separate and unique identities and pooling our wide-ranging knowledge, skills and experiences of high-quality early years education.
