Mencap Employment & Supported Internship Services for Young People with Learning Disability & Difficulty

“The aim of the service is to reduce the number of young people in London with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD) who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) and therefore are likely to suffer from reduced opportunities, low incomes and unemployment at a later stage of their lives.

The focus of the service will differ according to age, participants aged 16-18 will be supported to move into a sustained EET (Employment, Education, Training) outcome. For participants aged between 19-24, the aim is to tackle the issue of LDD young people cycling in and out of training without gaining employment experience , often leading to long term unemployment or economic inactivity as they move into adulthood.

Therefore, the aim is that the majority of young people who are aged 19-24 will be supported to move into paid employment, supported internship, traineeship or an apprenticeship”.
