Suntrap Forest Education Centre

Suntrap is Waltham Forest’s environmental education centre offering excellent outdoor learning opportunities for schools, adults, community groups and families. The centre is located in its own 7 acre site on the edge of Epping Forest, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation.

The Suntrap grounds include a low ropes course, an adventure playground with zip wire, 4 ponds (including one fully accessible for wheelchair users), a meadow, woodland, picnic benches, outdoor learning areas and a campsite.

Suntrap has excellent transport links; just over 2 miles from Loughton Station (Central Line for London Underground Services) and Chingford Station (rail services from Liverpool Street Station) and junction 26 of the M25 and junction 5 of the M11.

The centre is run by Waltham Forest but is open to any school or group wishing to visit the forest. The centre also runs an extensive programme of family events throughout the year.

A visit to Suntrap Centre gives children and young people the opportunity to learn in and about a natural environment close to where they live.

Please visit our website to look at the range of activities that we offer. All of our activities are tailored either to the EYFS Framework, National Curriculum or exam board specifications, are risk assessed and are led by fully-qualified tutors. The centre has held the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge since 2010.

In addition to visiting the centre, we can also provide outreach either in school grounds, in the classroom or in a local green space.

Family and Community groups

Please visit our website to find out about our programme of events held in school holidays or at weekends throughout the year. We have a camping field which is available for hire at weekends. Contact us for more information.

Adult groups

We offer away days for companies and organisations looking for team building activities or room hire to hold meetings.

We are experienced in training for schools and other settings looking to develop their outdoor learning or develop their grounds. The INSET/course would be tailored to meet your requirements.
