Buxton School

School

At Buxton School, we will be able to plan the curriculum from 3 to 16 because the majority of children will move seamlessly through the school. In this way we can ensure that there is continuity in the curriculum and that children can make real progress.

Children will start learning skills early on which will be vital to their future success with an increasingly specialised curriculum as they mature. There will be a progressive assessment framework to track pupil progress from primary to secondary phases. If pupils do not make sufficient progress interventions can be quickly put in place. For others who make good progress, their learning can be accelerated and they can be fast tracked onto new topics, using the specialised resources of the secondary phase and the challenges created by transition outlined earlier will not exist.

We believe that every pupil can be INSPIRED to be the very best that they can be.

We set the highest of EXPECTATIONS so that pupils will develop the skills, confidence and independence necessary to become SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS.

We are a supportive COMMUNITY.

We are AMBITIOUS for our pupils and the role that they will play in the future of their local and global communities.

TOGETHER with families we will enable every pupil to fulfil their potential.

Our vision pervades everything we do – learning to inspire, inspired to learn

Our aims as a Specialist Science College are to:
• raise standards of attainment for all pupils, particularly in our specialist subjects
• extend the subjects available both within the school day and after school time
• raise the standard of teaching and learning in our specialist subjects

School Nursery

What we offer

Monday to Friday 8.55am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm- 15 hours Free entitlement

Nursery Education at Buxton School is for children aged between 3 and 4 years, on a part-time basis. The Free Early Years entitlement, as with all Nurseries and Nursery classes, becomes available once a child reaches 2 years old (Buxton School from 3 years).

Our provision offers children with an enriching and stimulating environment in which they can grow and develop socially, emotionally and academically. Our provision enables our experienced staff to develop a range of opportunities for a balance of planned teaching and self-initiated activities. These will take place both inside and outside the classroom.

The Foundation Stage team is a very experience group of staff and work extremely hard to meet the needs of the children. They are committed to working in partnership with parents/carers and understand how important that partnership is in developing the children into the very best that they can be. Therefore, there are many opportunities for parents/carers to spend time in the Nursery or Reception classes to gain experience of what the children are learning and how you can support in their development.

30 Hours Free Entitlement for eligible parents

Monday to Friday 8:55am to 3:30pm- 30 hours Free entitlement

Buxton School is offering 30 Hours of FREE childcare per week to eligible parents with a child aged 3 to 4 years old.  The 30 hours of free childcare per week starts in September 2017, and is funded by a brand new government scheme known as ‘Extended Entitlement’.

The current 15 hours of free funding entitlement is already available for children aged 3 & 4 regardless of parental income.  This 15 hour entitlement remains unchanged.

As with the 15 hours free childcare funding entitlement, the 30 hours free childcare funding entitlement is available for 38 weeks in the year.  The ‘funded’ weeks will follow the normal school term dates.

Eligibility

The new 30 hours entitlement is available as a top-up to the current 15 hours provision.  To be eligible for the additional 15 hours of funding, each parent of the child must be employed a minimum equivalent of 16 hours per week, earning at least the national minimum wage.  Each parent must earn less than £100,000 per year.  Single parent families are also eligible, provided the sole parent works an equivalent of 16 hours per week, at national minimum wage.

How can I confirm my eligibility?

To find out if you are eligible, visit childcarechoices.gov.uk.  If you are successful, you will be issued with a code which you must give to the school office. Families will need to re-confirm their eligibility every three months to continue with the funding. If eligibility is not reconfirmed, parents will lose the additional free hours for their child. There will be a grace period that will apply if a family falls out of eligibility.
